Blankets that Tell a Story
We really enjoyed the visit from Kirsten and Dan from the Christchurch Library. They showed us three beautiful blankets about Maori myths. We sang waiata and listened to stories. It was great.

Term 4 Newsletter
Dear
Parents,
Welcome
back to the last and busiest term of the year.
Our theme
for this term is INNOVATION. We will be looking at ways early Maori used
natural materials to help meet their basic needs. This will be a Social Science
focus but we will also integrate DANCE: Telling Stories and VISUAL ART.
Later in
the term we will be having a visit from a city librarian who will show the
children blankets that have been designed around different Maori legends. With
the help of Room , we will create our own blanket about the Legend of the
Fifty-Five Feathers. We are aiming to put this on public display.
Our main
genre for ENGLISH is narratives. For PE will continue our very popular Kiwi
Sport programme as well as athletic skills. In RE we will be learning more Bible
stories, the Saints strand and Advent.
For those
of you who are new to our community, the Junior School has 2 regular fixtures
in the last term. Rooms 1 and 2 will perform a Nativity play on Wednesday
afternoon, 18th December. We
will be asking you to provide a simple costume for your child. Please let
extended family know about this play. All are welcome.
The other
yearly event is a visit to the A & P Show on Thursday, 14th
November. There is no cost associated with this this year, thanks in part to
the Parents and Friends. We will be requiring parent/grandparent help so please
inform me if you are able to help. This is always a most enjoyable day but it
is not suitable for pre-schoolers.
Thank you
for all your support.

Term 3 Newsletter
Class Newsletter for Room 2 Term3 2013
Dear
Parents and Caregivers,
I have enjoyed hearing about all the fun things
that the children did during the holidays. Thanks to the fabulous weather we
had, a large number of children enjoyed time at the beach. Let’s hope the good
weather lasts. It will help keep winter ills at bay.
We are ready now for another busy term.
On Friday we will celebrate St.Anne’s feast Day.
This will be such a nice way to get the term up and running. Our Religious
Education programme this term is a mixed bag. We will be exploring ways to pray
and experience the presence of God through our senses and through dance and
music. In the first few weeks we will be focusing on a health unit on Sexuality
and it will have a strong RE thread running through it. In the second part of
the term we will be looking at social justice issues around the theme of work.
We will conclude the term with our annual Mission Fair.
This ties in really well with our overall theme
for the term which is CITIZENSHIP and our school value of INTEGRITY. The key
competency focus will be RELATING TO OTHERS.
The Perpetual Motor Programme and Kiwi Sport
will continue this term. If you find that yourself available to help with PMP
on Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning please let me know. We are always
looking for volunteers. Thank you so much to the parents who do help.
At the end of last term we had a big problem in
this class trying to eradicate an outbreak of lice. Some children still have lice
despite their parents’ best efforts.
Every child’s hair needs to be checked regularly in order to get rid of
them. Tying girl’s hair back helps a lot. Thank you for your support in this.
Don’t forget to check out our blog. We would
love to have more followers and for comments to be made about the various
posts.
Please don’t hesitate to see me about any
concerns you may have and you are always welcome to come in before or after
school to see your child’s work.
Regards
Marian

Newsletter for Term 2
Term 2 Newsletter Room 2

Dear Parents and caregivers,
I hope you have had a wonderful holiday with your children and
enjoyed the amazing weather we had most of the time. I’m looking forward to
another jam-packed term. Let’s hope we all manage to stay healthy and well.
The theme for this term is CHANGE with a technology focus. We
are going to be looking at the toys/characters in Toy Story 1 and construct a
Buzzy Bee out of an egg carton. From there, the children will design and make
their own simple toy. We will have a whole school celebration of the children’s
creativity and learning. More information will follow about this in the
newsletters.
The genre we will focus on for English is Instructions.
This term the Perpetual Motor Programme will be up and running
again, as well as Kiwi Sport. Not only do all the children thoroughly enjoy the
PMP activities, they benefit in many other ways – fitness, balance, memory,
co-ordination to name a few. On behalf of you all I express a very big thank
you to our parent volunteers. We could not run this programme without you.
In RE we will be concluding the Holy Spirit strand at
Pentecost. On the 22nd May we will celebrate Catholic Schools Day
and special events for this are planned. After that we will focus on the Church
Strand.
Our Arts focus this term is Drama.
We will continue to put posts on our blog this term.

Welcome to Room 2 , 2013
Newsletter
for Room 2 Term 1 2013
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome to the 2013 school
year. The children are looking keen and ready to go and they are very happy to
see each other again.
We would like to welcome 3 new pupils and
their families. They are Noella,
Melania and Eliza. We hope you enjoy being part of the St Anne’s family. Some children are still overseas but when
they return I will put up photos of our class on our blog. www.stannes102.blogspot.com
The focus for this term is
Energy. We will be discovering energy
at work through different curriculum areas. In Science we will be mixing and
melting materials and in Health and PE we will look at good foods and keeping
active. We will also relate this theme to the Arts, especially Dance.
We are starting the year by
building an understanding of our friendship with Jesus and developing a
prayerful relationship with Him. We will also be following the season of Lent
and Easter and we will explore the Caritas Lenten unit.
Our English genre for the term
is Descriptions. This lends itself to building a rich vocabulary. Please take
every opportunity to use descriptive language with your child.
Room 1 and 2 hope to take
advantage of the beautiful weather we have been having and use the expertise of
the Art Gallery staff by a visit to the Botanic Gardens on the 27th
February. We will be involved in a 90 minute lesson on Watercolour painting. We
will leave school at 10am and return by 3 o’clock. This incurs a cost of $5 per child for the bus and the lesson.
Thank you for ensuring that
your child has all the equipment needed to get off to a good start. Please make
sure that the reading folder is returned to school every morning and that the
poetry and library books are returned by Friday. Please encourage your child to
be responsible for this. It is all part of being a good learner.
I am looking forward teaching
such a delightful class. Please feel
free to come and chat or to visit the classroom before or after school to see
your child’s work.
Thank you for all your support.
Marian Jones
