Newsletter for Room 2, Term 2   2014

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We had a mixed bag of weather these holidays but I hope you all managed to have some fun times with your children. With the winter term upon us the goal will be to stay healthy and avoid the bugs. If your child is sick, please keep him/her home.

Every term we have a school-wide theme and this term it is Sustainability under the science umbrella. Room 1 and 2 will be staying close to home and exploring the Estuary and the difference that we can make to keep it healthy. With this in mind we plan to catch the Red Bus to the Estuary on Wednesday, the 14^th May, weather permitting. If not, we will go on Friday, 16^th May. Can your child please bring $2 to school for the bus. On the day they will also need to bring an extra pair of sturdy shoes and a jacket.

In English the main genre will be descriptions. Hopefully we will have lots of opportunity from our exploring of the Estuary and other activities to talk and write about and to develop descriptive language skills in reading, writing and oral language.

In the first week of the term we will be learning more about the Easter season in Religious Education and then we will explore some traditional prayers. I have enclosed an overview of this study to help you support these ideas with your child. When that is concluded we be covering the Holy Spirit strand and beginning the Jesus Strand.

The Perpetual Motor Programme will commence again this term. This is hugely popular with the children and so beneficial for all aspects of their development. Thank you so much to the parent help who make this programme possible. If you find you are able to support us in this programme at any stage, please let me know as it will run for 2 terms. We will also be continuing with Kiwi Sport.

Visual Arts will be the main art topic for the term but there will also be opportunities to explore dance, drama and music through all the other curriculum areas.

Don’t forget to look on our blog (stannes102.blogspot.com) to see some of the activities the children are involved in and the children’s own work. Thanks to those who write a comment. We really enjoy them. Most of the children’s work is done in their Learning Book and they all take pride in everything they put in this book. Sometimes your child will bring it home to show you what they have done. Please ensure that it is returned to school promptly.

Lastly, just a reminder to read the Newsletter each week and to check what is on. Sometimes dates change and I wouldn’t want  you to miss something important.
