Sexuality Unit
Sexuality unit
There are three learning intentions for our unit:
· Being loved and loving others.
· Feelings about ourselves in relation to gender, culture and abilities.
· Before my birth.
The other two learning intentions outlined in the newsletter last week will be covered in the “Keeping Ourselves Safe” unit which will be taught next year.

Term 4 Newsletter
Room 2 Newsletter T4 2011
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This year has been topsy-turvy in so many ways. The 4th term is only 8 weeks long and it is packed with events. Make sure you take note of the calendar of events in the weekly newsletter because sometimes dates change. It is handy to mark special events on your own calendar.
There are 2 exciting events that happen in Term 4 each year. Junior classes always try to go to the A & P Show, weather permitting, and we combine with Room 1 to put on a nativity at the very end of the year. This year our performance will be on the 14th December at 2.15pm. There is always a great turnout for this. We will be asking for your support with costumes, but more about this latter.
We have booked to go to the A & P Show on Thursday, 10th November. Could you please let me know as soon as possible if you are able to be a parent help for this. It is not suitable for pre-schoolers. There will be no cost for your child this year as it will be paid from the school Earthquake Fund.
The theme for this term is Change. We will be doing a health unit on Sexuality. This is always a lovely unit with the focus being on understanding how amazing we all are.
The Key Competency is Managing Self. We will focus on ways we can develop independence and be responsible for ourselves. I am always amazed at how switched on children of this age are and we can sometimes under-estimate their capabilities. It is very empowering for children to be able to do more and more for themselves.
We will conclude our church unit this term. I was hoping to have a class mass but the weeks are so full that we will join in a parish mass instead. If the school will be attending All Saints or All Souls Day mass it will be in the newsletter . The study on the church has been fantastic. We have all learnt so much, including me. The final topic for the year will be Advent and Christmas.
Don’t forget to tune in to our class blog. We are starting to get some followers. The more, the merrier. There are 2 photo stories from last term on today. They take a while to load on to the screen but they come up eventually. The blog is a good way for me to put up messages too. www.stannes102.wikispaces.com
Keep up all the great work you do with your children,
Marian
Shardaye and Macarius
We have 2 new students in our class. Shardaye is a Room Twoer now. Macarius was in our class before the earthquake. We are happy that he is back again.

Rugby Day
Dear Mum and Dad,
On Friday we are having a Rugby Day. It was Isaia's idea.
We can choose what country we want to be and we can wear their colours.
Our class will be having a shared lunch so we all need to bring some food for that.
We hope it will be a sunny day but not too hot.

The Winners!
Our annual poetry competition was a great success. Thanks to all the mums and dads who worked so hard preparing the children. There was a very high standard, with lots of children memorizing wordy poems and speaking with clarity. The judges (Mrs.Jones and Miss French) were impressed with the number of children who were confident enough to include actions and props. Well done everyone.
First : Joyce
Second equal : Ema and Isaia
Third : Anna-Naina
Back to the Church
On Thursday we were visiting the church again. This time we were talking to Mrs. Greenlees. She plays the organ at mass on Saturday night. She played the organ for us and answered our questions.
Visit to the Church
On Wednesday we visited the church with Fr Chris. This is what Samoaotearoa wrote:
Yesterday we went to the church. Father told us why the snctuary lamp is by the tabenacle. We know that the Body of Christ and the Blood of Christ is by the tabenacle.

Matariki
On Friday the Junior classes celebrated Matariki.
We could wear sky colours to school. Ruby wore a sparkly skirt and Paige wore a starry top.
We went to each class and made something different. In Room 1 we made a kite. In Room 2 we made a harakiki bookmark and in Room 3 we made a poi. It was awesome fun making all these things.
At lunchtime we had a shared lunch.
We finished the day by planting an apple tree in the school garden.
We hope we celebrate Matariki at school next year.
