Welcome to the spring term. Room 2 extend a special welcome
to Benjamin Levy who is our newest class member.

Olympic values in action.

BE ACTIVELY INVOLVED
Some events
to look forward to this term:
·
St Anne’s feast Day
·
Maori Language Week
·
Poetry and Speech Competition
·
Cultural Festival
·
Class Assembly
Please read
the school newsletter carefully every week for dates and information. Sometimes
dates can change. Our class blog also can have information about events. You
can log on to this on www.stannes102.blogspot.com.
It is easy to become a follower and to add comments so I would encourage you to
do this.
We will
complete the God Strand soon and begin learning about the sacrament of baptism.
The children will be invited to share some of their baptism photos and
certificates. Baptism is their first sacrament and we will learn why this is
such an important and lovely sacrament.
We have
begun the initial lessons for the Perpetual Motor Programme and begin in
earnest in week 3. Thank you so much to our parent volunteers. We couldn’t do
this invaluable programme without you. If you find that you are able to help us
in the future on a Wednesday afternoon or a Thursday morning, please let me
know.
I am really
pleased with how well the children are working. They are becoming more
responsible and independent. Keeping up routines at home, especially with
reading and spelling for the Year 3s and returning things to school makes a
huge contribution to their success. Thanks for all your support.

2 Newsletter Term 2 2012
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to the
second term of 2012.
This term the overall
theme is “Sustainability”. Rooms 1 and 2 will be looking at the important part
insects play in our world. We will be learning about the good, the bad and the
interesting and developing an appreciation of these fascinating creatures. We
are hoping to visit the museum but it is closed at the moment. We will keep you informed about this. A small
cost will be included in this visit should we go.
Other subjects will be
integrated into this theme. In written language we will be learning to write
reports. Some of our artworks will be insect related and we will be exploring
the myth “The Ant and the Grasshopper” in dance and drama.
We will celebrating the
Easter message at the beginning of the term and then move on to the Holy Spirit
strand. We will be talking about how the Holy Spirit works in people. In the
second half of the term we will focus on the God strand.
Just a reminder during
these colder months to ensure your child has a hanky or tissues at school if
needed. Thanks.
We are continuing to
post new photos or videos on our class blog. We would love feedback on these as
well as more followers.
Next week Cathy and I
will be away on an ICT Tour in the North Island as part of our professional
development. We are looking forward to visiting 5 schools and returning home
with some great ideas.
Let’s hope we have a
healthy and productive term. Keep up the great work you do with your children.

Shared Lunch
Room 1 & 2 Shared Lunch
Dear Parents,
On Wednesday, 14thMarch we would like to have a shared lunch to celebrate our Identity study: Kiwi Kids.
Would you please send a plate of food that reflects either our Kiwi cuisine or represents food from your cultural background. A small explanation would be appreciated, if it is not a common dish in New Zealand.
Thanks for all your support and interest during this study and a huge thanks to those who came to speak to the children.
Regards,
Marian and Cathy

Newsletter Term 1 2012
Term 1 2012 Room 2 Newsletter
Dear Parents,
Greetings and welcome to another school year. Let’s hope it is smooth sailing this year with no dramatic interruptions.
Welcome to WhunnDaa, Leroy, Tina and their families to our class.
This year there are 11 Year 3 children in this class. Those children will be receiving an additional letter explaining reading and spelling homework.
The Key Competency that we will focus on this term is Managing Self. It will be good to start the year as we mean to carry on by looking at ways that the children can be more responsible and independent. I am hoping that they will have lots of suggestions. Returning things to school – RE book, poetry book, library book, reading and notices is their responsibility and most children do a brilliant job.
Our learning for Term 1 revolves around IDENTITY. Room 1 and 2 are going to work together to discover how our different cultural backgrounds effects our daily lives and what we all share to make us Kiwi kids. We hope to take advantage of the summer weather to have some Kiwi experiences e.g. beach, fishing off the bridge, barbequing, camping, a picnic in the park. In week 7 we would like to have a shared lunch when children bring food which reflects their heritage. Around these themes we will incorporate The Arts and recounts in English.
If you can help in any way please let us know.
In Religious Education we are starting the term by exploring prayer and Our Spiritual Selves. We will integrate lent and Easter in the Jesus strand.
I am looking forward to working with you again.
